Overview
EauSûr Détection finds water leaks without breaking anything: thermal imaging, tracer gas, acoustic listening, video inspection, pressure testing. It works across the south of France, for homeowners as well as swimming pools and apartment blocks.
It has one distinction worth its weight in gold as an argument: it only diagnoses, it never repairs. No incentive to find a leak bigger than it is. That complete impartiality is its best sales argument. The site just had to carry it.
The starting point
The site had been put together quickly on a generic WordPress theme, and a few of the theme's default settings had been left in place, a very common situation when you are an expert at your trade rather than at your website. Nothing irreversible, but enough small details to keep an excellent tradesman from being found and contacted.
In concrete terms: default template text still read by Google instead of the real content, a contact form that led nowhere, no analytics in place, and a site still served over HTTP. Foundations to set straight first of all, the good news being that a clean base was enough to unlock the situation.
Objectives
- Remove everything in the theme demo that speaks in the client's place
- Take back control of what Google displays about the site
- Make contact possible: phone, WhatsApp, and a form that actually arrives
- Measure inbound requests, a precondition for any future ad budget
What I did
- Removed the theme's demo blocks left on the Contact and Quote pages, including erroneous template contact details that were feeding Google's results.
- Fixed the typo in the site name, which automatically propagated into the title tag and sharing metadata, plus a typo on the homepage's main button.
- Installed and configured an SEO plugin, and crucially disabled the theme's native Open Graph tags: they duplicated the others and re-injected the old English description.
- Wrote French metadata for the home, contact and quote pages, aimed at the real trade: non-destructive leak detection, thermal imaging, tracer gas, regional coverage.
- Rewrote the gallery captions with the exact technical context of each job (technique used, location, property type) taken straight from the tradesman. A fluorescent tracer photo is not a tracer gas photo: in this trade, precision is the argument.
- Defined the three conversions to track: call, WhatsApp, form (the real trio in this trade, where a prospect with a leak calls, they do not work through a funnel).
- Migration to HTTPS coordinated with the technical parties involved.
What this case teaches
A quickly built site costs nothing to set up, but an original setting left in the code can cost enquiries for months without a single warning sign. Invisible on screen, it only surfaces exactly where the prospect decides whether to click. The most expensive flaws in a site are the ones you cannot see by looking at it, which is why an audit reads the code, not just the page.
The useful reflex: before buying a single click, look at what the site already says about itself in search results. Sending ad budget to pages showing a fake phone number is paying to be badly introduced.
Results
The indexing audit run on the cleaned-up site returns a score of 79.6/100 and, more importantly, no critical issues: all 17 sitemap pages respond correctly, none is blocked from indexing, each carries a single canonical tag, and there are no redirect chains left. The site now presents the right trade, in the right language, in the right country.
What is still outstanding
I would rather say it than hide it: the job is not finished. The theme's English demo pages still respond and must be removed. Several pages are too thin to carry weight in search, and six of them are insufficiently linked to the rest of the site. Conversion tracking and the ad landing page remain to be finalised. A score of 79.6 is a cleaned foundation, not a finish line.
Business impact: the business now presents a clean, consistent identity, and its strongest argument, the complete impartiality of the diagnosis, is finally carried by the pages, and the technical foundation is sound. That is the precondition for any advertising spend: you do not push budget towards a site that undermines itself.
